Arunachal Pradesh University Faculty Dr. Menuka Kadu to Represent Northeast India at Prestigious International Women’s Conference in Bali

In a proud moment for academia and gender studies in the Northeast, Dr. Menuka Kadu, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Social Work at Arunachal Pradesh University, Pasighat, has been selected as the sole representative from the region to participate in the 9th International Conference on the Future of Women 2026.

The conference, organized by the International Institute of Knowledge Management (IIKM) in partnership with academic institutions across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, is set to take place in Bali, Indonesia, on February 9-10. It brings together global scholars, practitioners, and advocates to discuss advancements in women’s empowerment, gender equality, and feminist scholarship through workshops, panels, and presentations.

The event’s central theme, “Feminist Perspectives in GLocal Contexts”, emphasizes localized yet globally relevant approaches to feminist issues.

Dr. Kadu will present her research paper titled “Silenced Bodies, Formed Identities: Tribal Girls’ Menstrual Experiences in Northeast India”. The study explores the profound effects of menstrual taboos on social identity, bodily autonomy, and early gender socialization among adolescent girls from tribal communities, including the Galo, Adi, and Idu Mishmi groups. Drawing from qualitative narratives, it highlights restrictive practices, social exclusion, and emerging forms of resistance amid cultural and social transformations.

Her participation is expected to bring indigenous perspectives from Northeast India to the forefront of international feminist dialogues, enriching discussions on region-specific challenges in social work, gender justice, and cultural studies.

This achievement underscores Arunachal Pradesh University’s growing contribution to global academic platforms and highlights the importance of amplifying Northeast voices in worldwide conversations on women’s rights and empowerment.
