Peaceful Panchayat Polls Held Across Arunachal’s Keyi Panyor District

The panchayat elections in Keyi Panyor district of Arunachal Pradesh concluded peacefully on December 15, with voters turning out in large numbers to elect representatives for Gram Panchayats and Zilla Parishad Members. The single-phase polls, held simultaneously with other districts in the state, saw no major incidents of violence or disruption, reflecting the effective enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and strong community participation.

Keyi Panyor, a newly carved district with its headquarters at Sangram, comprises several assembly constituencies including Sangram, Parsi-Parlo, and parts of Nyapin. The elections covered Gram Panchayats and Zilla Parishad seats, with polling stations set up across remote and hilly terrains to ensure accessibility for voters.

Key Highlights of the Polls

  • Voter Turnout: High participation was reported, with many polling booths recording over 80% turnout despite challenging winter weather and terrain.
  • Security Arrangements: Extensive deployment of police, paramilitary forces, and local administration ensured a smooth process. No untoward incidents were reported.
  • EVM and Ballot Paper Usage: Municipal areas (if any) used Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), while rural Gram Panchayat seats relied on ballot papers.
  • Contested and Uncontested Seats: Several seats were uncontested, with candidates winning unopposed, while others saw competitive polling.

The peaceful conduct of elections was lauded by district officials, who credited the cooperation of political parties, candidates, and the general public. District Election Officer (Panchayati Raj) Tadar Mize expressed satisfaction:

“The elections passed off peacefully with enthusiastic participation from the people. This reflects the maturity of our democratic process in Keyi Panyor.”

Post-Poll Developments

Counting of votes is scheduled for December 20, 2025, with results expected the same day. The elected representatives will assume office for a five-year term, focusing on grassroots development issues such as rural infrastructure, water supply, education, and health services.

The successful polls in Keyi Panyor align with the overall statewide trend, where the elections have been largely peaceful despite the rugged geography and diverse tribal communities. The State Election Commission (SEC) has praised the district administration for efficient management and adherence to MCC guidelines.

As Arunachal Pradesh moves towards strengthening local governance, the Keyi Panyor elections serve as a positive example of inclusive and orderly democratic exercise in one of the state’s newest districts.
