Arunachal Leaders Urge Citizens to Reinforce Constitutional Values on Constitution Day

Arunachal Pradesh marked the 76th Constitution Day with a series of statewide programmes, where prominent leaders called upon citizens to reaffirm their commitment to the foundational principles of the Indian Constitution. Observed annually on November 26 to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly in 1949, the day serves as a poignant reminder of the document’s role in shaping India’s democratic ethos and safeguarding individual rights and duties.

The celebrations underscored the Constitution’s enduring relevance as the bedrock of the nation’s governance, promoting themes of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. Across the state, educational institutions, government offices, and community centres hosted events including pledge-taking ceremonies, seminars, and cultural programmes to educate the public on constitutional values.

Key Messages from State Leadership

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K T Parnaik addressed the gathering at Raj Bhavan, describing Constitution Day as a “solemn reminder of our shared responsibilities.” He emphasised the importance of upholding fundamental duties enshrined in the Constitution, urging citizens to contribute to building a “just, harmonious, and progressive society” rooted in constitutional norms.

The Governor paid rich tributes to Dr B R Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution, hailing his visionary leadership in crafting a framework that ensures dignity, equality, and justice for all, particularly the marginalised sections of society. “Let us draw inspiration from Ambedkar’s ideals and work towards eradicating social inequalities while fostering national unity,” he stated.

Echoing similar sentiments, Chief Minister Pema Khandu highlighted the Constitution as the “cornerstone of India’s vibrant democracy.” In his message, he appealed to the people of Arunachal to internalise and embody its core principles, stating that these values are essential for realising the vision of a stronger, self-reliant nation.

“On this Constitution Day, let us pledge to live by the ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. These principles not only guide our democracy but also unite us as a nation,” the Chief Minister remarked.

Statewide Observance and Broader Significance

The day’s events were organised under the aegis of the state government and various civil society groups, with active participation from students, youth, and community leaders. In schools and colleges, special assemblies featured recitations of the Preamble and discussions on constitutional rights, aiming to instill civic awareness among the younger generation.

The observance in Arunachal Pradesh also resonated with the state’s unique cultural and tribal diversity, where leaders stressed the need to harmonise constitutional values with indigenous customs to promote inclusive development. This year’s celebrations gained added importance amid ongoing national discourses on strengthening democratic institutions and addressing contemporary challenges like social justice and environmental sustainability.

As Arunachal Pradesh joins the nation in celebrating Constitution Day, the leaders’ appeals serve as a clarion call for collective action. By reinforcing constitutional values, citizens are encouraged to play an active role in nation-building, ensuring the document’s promise of equality and opportunity endures for future generations.
