Major Drug Bust in Pasighat: East Siang Police Nab Peddler Under Operation Dawn 2.0, Seize Heroin and Cannabis

Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh – In a decisive strike against narcotics trafficking, the East Siang district police have apprehended a local drug peddler and confiscated suspected heroin along with cannabis during a meticulously planned raid in Pasighat. The operation, part of the intensified Operation Dawn 2.0, underscores the authorities’ unwavering commitment to eradicating drug menace from Arunachal Pradesh’s communities.

Acting swiftly on reliable intelligence, the dedicated Anti-Drug Squad (ADS) team intercepted the suspect in the heart of Pasighat, marking another success in the ongoing campaign to create a safer, drug-free environment for residents.

Swift Action Leads to Arrest in Sibo Village

The breakthrough came when ADS personnel zeroed in on Kadum Yomso, a resident of Sibo village in Pasighat. Under the leadership of DySP Ayup Boko, the squad—comprising SI K. Tangha, ASI (SG) K. Yomso, Constable T. Ragyor, and driver Constable M. Rina—executed the arrest with precision. Valuable coordination was provided by local Anti-Drug Warrior Nini Tamin and his committed team.

From the possession of the accused, authorities recovered approximately 6.17 grams of suspected heroin and 1.97 grams of suspected cannabis (ganja). The entire procedure adhered strictly to provisions under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, conducted transparently in the presence of independent witnesses to ensure legal integrity.

Following the seizure, the contraband and the arrested individual were formally handed over to Pasighat Police Station, where a case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Investigations are progressing rapidly to uncover any larger networks involved.

Zero-Tolerance Stance Reinforced by Top Brass

East Siang Superintendent of Police Pankaj Lamba, IPS, commended the Anti-Drug Squad for their vigilant efforts and prompt response. He emphasized the district administration’s firm zero-tolerance policy toward drug peddling and trafficking, highlighting how such operations disrupt the supply chain and protect vulnerable youth from substance abuse.

Authorities have appealed to the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities related to narcotics. Community participation remains pivotal in sustaining these gains and fostering a healthier society in East Siang and beyond.

Operation Dawn 2.0 continues to gain momentum, with multiple such interdictions signaling a proactive approach to tackling the drug problem at its roots in Arunachal Pradesh. This latest arrest serves as a strong deterrent to those involved in illicit trade, while boosting public confidence in law enforcement’s resolve.

As anti-drug initiatives intensify across the Northeast, successes like this in Pasighat highlight the effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing and collaborative efforts in building drug-free zones.
