Arunachal Powerlifters Storm Bengaluru Nationals with Historic Medal Sweep

State Lifters Dominate Senior, Junior, and Sub-Junior Categories at WPC Championships, Sparking Youth Surge in Strength Sports Across Northeast

Arunachal Pradesh’s powerlifting squad has etched a golden chapter in the state’s sporting legacy, clinching an impressive array of medals at the World Powerlifting Congress (WPC) National Championship in Bengaluru. The contingent’s stellar haul across multiple weight classes and disciplines not only signals a quantum leap in competitive prowess but also ignites a fresh wave of enthusiasm among young athletes, positioning the Northeast as a rising force in India’s strength arena.

The three-day extravaganza showcased Arunachal’s depth and determination, with lifters excelling in the squat, bench press, and deadlift (SBD) events, alongside specialized single-lift showdowns. Leading the charge was senior category star Santana Manlai, whose commanding gold in the –52 kg SBD division set an electrifying tone for the team. Her triumph, marked by flawless technique and unyielding focus, became the rallying cry that propelled the squad to even greater heights.

The sub-junior ranks brimmed with promise, as Pinge Basar dominated with a triple crown: golds in SBD, single bench press, and single deadlift. Not to be outdone, Prince Raj mirrored the excellence, grabbing golds in SBD and single deadlift while adding a silver in single bench press. In the –60 kg sub-junior bracket, Joseng Pangyouk powered to double gold in single bench and single deadlift, with Tobang Norah securing a silver in SBD for a one-two punch.

Junior lifters kept the momentum alive, as Bidhata Nayak pocketed two silvers in the –67.5 kg class, blending grit with precision. Tumge Karbak rounded out the sub-junior highlights with a gold in single bench press at –67.5 kg, while Subham Singh notched double golds in sub-junior bench and deadlift segments, capping a medal frenzy that left officials beaming.

Delegation head and General Secretary Azad Basfore attributed the breakthrough to rigorous regimens and expanding base-level involvement. “This isn’t luck—it’s the fruit of disciplined sweat and a thriving grassroots ecosystem that’s drawing more Arunachal youth to the iron game,” Basfore enthused, forecasting a ripple effect that could propel the state toward international podiums.

This medal bonanza transcends the platform; it’s a clarion call for budding powerlifters in Arunachal, where tales of triumph like these are rewriting narratives of potential and perseverance in the Northeast’s fitness frontier.
