Arunachal POCSO Court Delivers 20-Year Sentence in Chilling Sexual Assault Verdict

Pasighat Special Judge Imposes Rigorous Imprisonment and Fine on Convict for Heinous Crime Against Minor Girl, Reinforcing Child Protection Safeguards

In a landmark ruling that underscores Arunachal Pradesh’s unyielding commitment to shielding vulnerable children from predators, the Special POCSO Court in Pasighat has sentenced a 32-year-old man to 20 years of stringent incarceration for the brutal sexual assault of a minor girl. The verdict, handed down after a meticulous trial, also slaps a hefty Rs 5,000 fine on the perpetrator, with an additional Rs 2 lakh compensation earmarked for the survivor’s rehabilitation and emotional recovery.

The harrowing case, lodged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, stemmed from a complaint filed by the victim’s family in 2023, detailing repeated acts of molestation and assault that shattered the child’s innocence. East Siang Police’s Women and Child Welfare Cell, under the vigilant leadership of Superintendent of Police (SP) Sampath Alfred Dhakwa, swiftly mobilized a dedicated investigation team. Led by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Akash Gupta and guided by the Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl. SP) Meera Kumari, the probe uncovered irrefutable digital and testimonial evidence that sealed the convict’s fate.

Public Prosecutor Adv. Taring Nyodu presented a watertight case, weaving victim statements, medical reports, and forensic insights into a compelling narrative of justice denied no longer. The court, presided over by Judge Y. Toko, lauded the prosecution’s thoroughness while condemning the accused’s calculated exploitation of trust within a familial setting. “This sentence serves as a stern deterrent to those who prey on the defenseless, affirming that our justice system stands as an impenetrable fortress for every child’s dignity,” Toko declared in her comprehensive judgment.

The conviction resonates deeply in a state where child safety remains a pressing priority, blending legal muscle with community-driven awareness to eradicate such shadows. SP Dhakwa hailed the outcome as a triumph of collaborative resolve, crediting the victim’s family’s courage and the police’s trauma-informed approach. “Every step was calibrated to empower the survivor, ensuring her voice echoed through the corridors of justice,” she affirmed, pledging intensified outreach programs to fortify preventive nets.

This resolute verdict not only mends a fractured trust but also galvanizes Arunachal’s broader crusade against gender-based violence, weaving a safer tapestry where young lives can flourish unscarred by fear.
