Arunachal Pradesh Unveils Vibrant Tribal Legacy at Ashtalakshmi Cultural Exchange Spectacle

Art and Culture Department Teams Up with Rajiv Gandhi University to Ignite Northeast Harmony Through Folk Fusion and Inter-State Artistic Dialogues

Arunachal Pradesh’s Department of Art and Culture joined forces with Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) at Rono Hills to host a dynamic cultural exchange program under the Ashtalakshmi Darshan banner of the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav. This initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), seeks to weave threads of unity across the eight Northeastern states and beyond, celebrating shared heritage through immersive artistic encounters.

Under the stewardship of RGU Registrar Dr. N.T. Rikam, the gathering fused age-old traditions with contemporary flair, drawing a lively crowd of 44 students from Goa and Uttarakhand alongside esteemed guests and cultural stewards. The platform served as a vibrant canvas for showcasing Arunachal’s rich ethnic mosaic, blending youthful vigor with timeless narratives.

Highlights unfolded through mesmerizing audio-visual showcases that illuminated the state’s tribal artistry. Local talents captivated attendees with evocative folk songs from Er John Paleng, innovative folk-fusion acts by Toba Angu, intricate visual creations by Hage Rinya, harmonious melodies from Rode Karcho, rhythmic dances led by Joram Rinya, and expressive installations by Khawchat Pansang. Each segment delved into the profound symbolism embedded in Arunachal’s diverse indigenous crafts, fostering deeper appreciation for their cultural depth.

In a reciprocal flourish, participants from Goa and Uttarakhand shared their own regional gems, sparking dialogues that bridged geographical divides and nurtured a palpable sense of camaraderie. This exchange not only highlighted artistic synergies but also underscored the power of performance in building emotional bonds across India’s kaleidoscopic landscape.

The occasion drew luminaries such as Smt. M. Riba (IAS), Secretary of the Department of Art & Culture; Shri Ibom Tao, Director; Shri S. Mam, Joint Director; Shri Oshon Borang and Smti. Taba Yashika, DACOs (HQ); Dr. Kaushalendra Pratap Singh, Nodal Officer for Ashtalakshmi Darshan; and Moyir Riba Gamlin, Coordinator and PRO. Out-of-state notables like Dr. Deepak Singh and Dr. Arun Chaturvedi from Uttarakhand, alongside Subhasini alias Gitali Santosh Kudnekar and Sujan Shankar Sawant from Goa, enriched the assembly with their insights.

Injecting fresh momentum, the event doubled as an induction for newly appointed DACO and AACO officers from the APPSCCE 2024 cohort, offering them an immersive dive into the Northeast’s cultural vibrancy as part of their foundational training.

Culminating in a symphony of mutual admiration, the program embodied the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav’s ethos of fostering inclusive growth and cultural cohesion, paving the way for stronger inter-regional ties that honor India’s pluralistic spirit.
