West Kameng District Initiative by APB&OCWWB Delivers Dignified Accommodation at Rupa River Festival Ground, Boosting Worker Welfare and Project Efficiency
In a significant stride toward enhancing the well-being of frontline builders, Arunachal Pradesh has introduced a state-of-the-art Labour Shed-cum-Night Shelter at the Rupa River Festival Ground in Rupa, West Kameng district. This dedicated facility promises to offer registered construction workers across the state a secure and comfortable retreat, addressing long-standing challenges in on-site living conditions and fostering a more supportive ecosystem for the sector’s vital contributors.
The unveiling was led by Tseten Chombay, the dedicated MLA representing the 5th Kalaktang-Rupa constituency, who highlighted the project’s role in upholding worker dignity. Sanctioned through the proactive efforts of the Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (APB&OCWWB) under the guidance of Chairman Rolen Dagam, the shelter stands as a testament to collaborative governance. Joining the ceremony were key local figures, including ZPC West Kameng Karma Dorjee Thongdok and ADC Rupa Lobsang Tsetan, whose presence underscored community-wide endorsement.
Crafted with precision by the Rural Works Department (RWD), the multi-purpose structure blends functionality with affordability, featuring spacious resting areas, essential amenities, and resilient design to withstand the region’s dynamic climate. Tailored for construction laborers engaged in infrastructure drives, it ensures easy access during extended project timelines, minimizing fatigue and elevating overall productivity on job sites.
MLA Chombay commended the RWD team and all involved partners for their exemplary craftsmanship and unwavering commitment. “This shelter isn’t just a building—it’s a beacon of respect and reliability for those who shape our state’s future,” he emphasized, calling on stakeholders to sustain such welfare-focused endeavors.
Backed by the APB&OCWWB’s comprehensive framework, this addition aligns with broader governmental priorities to uplift marginalized segments of the workforce. By providing hygienic, weather-proof overnight options, it mitigates health risks and promotes family stability, allowing workers to focus on delivering high-quality builds that propel Arunachal’s developmental narrative.
Looking ahead, officials signal plans to replicate this model in other high-activity zones, potentially integrating vocational training hubs and health outposts to create holistic support networks. This forward-looking approach not only safeguards labor rights but also invigorates the construction landscape, ensuring Arunachal Pradesh remains a hub of inclusive progress and resilient communities.
