Arunachal Pradesh authorities have escalated their pursuit of senior civil servant Talo Potom by circulating a nationwide Look Out Notice, tying him to the suspected suicide of 19-year-old Gomchu Yekar. Currently serving as Special Under Secretary in the Public Works Department in New Delhi, Potom has gone off the grid, prompting heightened vigilance from police units across the country to pinpoint his location.
The Nirjuli Police Station has formalized charges under NRJ PS Case No. 92/2025, invoking Sections 108, 271, and 272/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 for abetment of self-harm and actions risking infectious disease spread. All district-level officers and station heads have been alerted to report any sightings or detentions to Nirjuli immediately, amplifying the manhunt’s reach.
Investigators, guided by cell phone signals, recently scoured Potom’s Itanagar property but came up empty-handed. They learned his official number was active via a domestic aide, who admitted Potom had swapped out the SIM in his personal device prior to vanishing, complicating digital trails.
The probe deepened with the emergence of a distressing farewell letter from Yekar, directly implicating Potom alongside Rural Works Department Executive Engineer Likwang Lowang in a cycle of intimate coercion and emotional torment that purportedly pushed the young man over the edge.
Outrage has swelled regionally, with the All Tagin Students’ Union (ATSU), spearheaded by General Secretary Vijay Domin, aligning with Yekar’s kin to press for swift apprehension. In a stark ultimatum delivered outside the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) mortuary, they gave officials 24 hours to deliver, vowing otherwise to retrieve the remains and inter them on Potom’s premises as a visceral call for resolution.
Domin addressed reporters, asserting Yekar’s confirmed HIV diagnosis stemmed from encounters with the suspects and imploring any others potentially affected to seek screening. He stressed the imperative of transparency to shield vulnerable individuals from similar ordeals.
No leads on Potom’s whereabouts have surfaced yet, leaving communities in Itanagar and beyond on edge. Advocacy from bereaved relatives, youth organizations, and broader civic voices underscores a fervent quest for redress and systemic reform.
