In a deeply troubling case, the parent of a young engineer who died by suicide has registered a formal complaint at Nirjuli Police Station in Arunachal Pradesh. The allegations target two high-ranking public servants, claiming they contributed to his son’s death through psychological torment, coerced intimacy, and corrupt demands.
The grieving father, Tagom Yekar, points the finger at Talo Potom, an IAS officer serving as Special Secretary in the Public Works Department and currently stationed in New Delhi, along with Likwang Lowang, an Executive Engineer in the Rural Works Department based at Chiyang Tajo. According to the report, Gomchu Yekar, the 28-year-old victim, ended his life on October 23 in his rental home in Lekhi village, Papum Pare district, overwhelmed by relentless pressure and degradation from these individuals.
A handwritten note found at the scene explicitly implicates the officers, outlining a pattern of deliberate intimidation and misuse of power. The father asserts that his son faced constant demands to partake in fraudulent dealings and unauthorized approvals related to project funding and operations. Refusal reportedly led to escalating threats and emotional manipulation designed to break his resolve.
Compounding the claims are disturbing accusations of personal violation. The complaint details how one officer allegedly enforced an unwanted same-sex dynamic with the victim, even proposing a massive financial incentive of ₹1 crore to sustain it. Further, it’s alleged that this official, aware of his own HIV status, knowingly put Gomchu at grave risk, constituting a severe breach of safety and trust.
Tagom Yekar describes the note as a vital testament from his dying son and calls for immediate forensic analysis, including handwriting authentication. He also pushes for a review of phone logs and digital messages to uncover the full scope of interactions and prevent any cover-up.
The plea invokes sections from the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for offenses like abetment to suicide and endangering life; the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for graft-related misconduct; and the HIV and AIDS (Prevention and Control) Act, 2017, to address the health endangerment claims. The father demands a comprehensive probe to hold the perpetrators accountable, stressing that accountability must transcend rank and status to deter future abuses.
Neither the implicated officers nor Arunachal Pradesh authorities have issued statements on the matter so far.
