Arunachal Pradesh Leader Advances Bilateral Ties with Japan in Tokyo

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu is actively promoting deeper collaboration between India and Japan through a series of strategic discussions during his ongoing trip to Tokyo. His itinerary emphasizes opportunities in cultural exchange, economic growth, and mutual development projects.

In one significant dialogue, Khandu connected with Yasutoshi Nishimura, a prominent Japanese parliamentarian and head of the Japan-India Friendship League in the House of Representatives. Their conversation highlighted ways to elevate the overall India-Japan alliance, with a special focus on nurturing cultural connections and identifying new areas for joint progress. Reflecting on the exchange via social media, Khandu noted the potential to propel these partnerships forward for enhanced cultural bonds and collaborative advancements.

Khandu also held talks with Toshiaki Nishikawa, the influential Chairman and CEO of ASEAN Group Co. Ltd. Nishikawa expressed firm dedication to boosting the role of Indian talent within Japan’s professional landscape. He shared details on active partnerships with multiple Indian states aimed at fostering Japanese language education and vocational training programs. The Chief Minister expressed enthusiasm for these ventures, underscoring how they could solidify India-Japan relations by fostering skilled labor exchanges.

During a dedicated lunch session with notable Japanese figures—such as Itsunori Onodera, who leads the Policy Research and Tax System councils; Yoshiaki Wada, a seasoned former parliamentarian; and Rui Matsukawa, a House of Councillors member—Khandu explored strategies to intensify diplomatic and cooperative frameworks. He characterized the session as highly enlightening, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aspirations for a more integrated India-Japan dynamic.

Furthering the agenda, Khandu interacted with representatives from Sankyo Frontier Co. Ltd., experts in innovative modular and prefabricated building techniques. He commended their cutting-edge methods for swift, weather-resistant construction suited to challenging landscapes, envisioning their application to revolutionize infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh and neighboring mountainous areas.

Accompanying team members highlighted that this journey reflects Arunachal Pradesh’s proactive push to expand ties with Japan across tech innovation, building projects, and talent nurturing, all while bolstering the cultural and geopolitical links between the nations.
