Arunachal Pradesh: Assam Rifles Camp Comes Under Militant Attack in Changlang; Four Jawans Injured

In a brazen act of insurgent violence, suspected militants from the NSCN (K-YA) faction stormed an Assam Rifles camp in the remote Hatman village under the Manmao area of Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district in the early hours of Wednesday. The attack, which unfolded between 2:30 and 3:00 a.m. on October 15, triggered a fierce exchange of gunfire, leaving four jawans with bullet injuries.

Eyewitness accounts and initial reports indicate that the armed assailants targeted the security post without warning, catching the personnel off guard in the dead of night. The Assam Rifles responded promptly, retaliating with heavy fire to repel the intruders. Despite the intensity of the clash, no casualties were reported among the militants, who fled into the surrounding terrain under the cover of darkness.

Among the injured were two personnel identified as Rifleman Harisharan and Rifleman Rahul Bora, who were swiftly evacuated from the site. They were airlifted to the 5 Air Force Hospital in Jorhat, Assam, arriving around 8:24 a.m. for specialized medical care. The conditions of the other two injured jawans remain undisclosed, but security sources confirmed that all four are stable and receiving treatment.

In the immediate aftermath, security forces launched a comprehensive cordon-and-search operation across the hilly and forested region to flush out the perpetrators. Reinforcements from nearby units have been rushed to the area, bolstering the response efforts. The situation in Manmao remains fluid and tense, with heightened vigilance along the Indo-Myanmar border, a known hotspot for insurgent activities.

This incident underscores the persistent challenges posed by splinter factions of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang-Yung Aung), which continue to operate in the Northeast despite ongoing peace initiatives. Officials have yet to issue an official statement, but investigations are underway to ascertain the exact number of militants involved and their motives.

The story is developing, with more updates expected as additional details emerge from the ground. Local authorities have urged residents to remain calm and report any suspicious activities.
