Banderdewa, Arunachal Pradesh – In a decisive move against drug trafficking, the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) Police conducted a successful operation in the early hours of July 11, 2025, intercepting a drug smuggling attempt in Banderdewa. The operation resulted in the seizure of 27.72 grams of suspected narcotic substances and the arrest of two individuals from Nagaon, Assam.
Acting on precise intelligence, a team led by Sub-Inspector Koj Tada executed a well-coordinated raid near Niya Colony at approximately 1:30 AM. The police apprehended two suspects, identified as Azahar Hussain, 23, and Ismail Hogue, 30, both residents of Nagaon district, who were attempting to transport illegal drugs into Arunachal Pradesh. The operation was closely supervised by Naharlagun Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rishi Longdo, with assistance from Assistant Sub-Inspector S.K. Jha, Head Constable T. Bomdom, and Constable R. Tsering.
A case has been registered at Banderdewa Police Station under Case No. 50/2025, invoking Section 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The suspects are now in custody as investigations continue.
Dr. Nyelam Nega, Superintendent of Police for ICR, Naharlagun, praised the team’s rapid response and emphasized the department’s unwavering commitment to curbing drug trafficking. “This operation marks another step in our relentless efforts to ensure a drug-free Arunachal Pradesh,” Dr. Nega stated. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to aid in the fight against narcotics.
