The Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) Police, under the leadership of Superintendent of Police Dr. Nelyam Nega, launched a robust anti-drug campaign on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, aiming to foster a drug-free society in Arunachal Pradesh’s capital. The initiative featured a series of awareness programs and community outreach efforts to educate residents about the dangers of drug addiction.
Dr. Nega, addressing a key awareness session, called for collective action, stating, “A united community is essential to protect our youth and build a healthier future.” The campaign included interactive sessions in schools, where police officers engaged students on the risks of substance abuse, preventive measures, and the importance of healthy lifestyle choices. Pamphlets and posters were distributed, and students participated in pledge-taking ceremonies to commit to a drug-free life.
Beyond schools, police teams reached out to local markets, residential areas, and public spaces across the capital, spreading the anti-drug message and urging citizens to report suspicious activities anonymously. The ICR Police emphasized a year-round commitment to such initiatives, focusing on education, enforcement, and rehabilitation to make Itanagar a model for drug-free living.
This campaign reflects a broader push in Arunachal Pradesh to tackle drug abuse through community-driven efforts, particularly in vulnerable border regions, complementing ongoing operations like ‘Operation Dawn 2.0,’ which has led to significant drug seizures and arrests in recent months.
