A war memorial dedicated to Lance Naik Agoi Wangsa, a heroic soldier of the 3rd Battalion, Assam Regiment, was inaugurated in Longding, Arunachal Pradesh, in a solemn ceremony attended by state dignitaries and military officials. The memorial honors Wangsa’s bravery and sacrifice during a counter-terrorism operation in Punjab in 1992, for which he was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra.
The unveiling ceremony, led by Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik, paid tribute to Wangsa’s courage and service to the nation. The memorial, strategically located in Longding to inspire future generations, stands as a symbol of valor and patriotism. Governor Parnaik emphasized its role in motivating youth to emulate Wangsa’s dedication, noting the state’s pride in its military heroes.
Local leaders, including MLAs Honchun Ngandam and Tanpho Wangnaw, who had advocated for the memorial since 2021, expressed gratitude for its realization. The structure, designed to be prominent and visible, aims to foster a sense of national pride in the region. The event also highlighted ongoing efforts to support the martyr’s family, with calls for financial assistance to ensure their well-being.
