Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh took a significant step toward bolstering its power infrastructure as Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who also oversees the power portfolio, chaired a high-level review meeting in Namsai to assess the progress of the Comprehensive Scheme for Strengthening of Transmission and Distribution System (CSST&DS). The meeting, attended by key officials and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) representatives, focused on ensuring timely completion of critical power projects to meet the state’s growing energy demands.
During the session, PGCIL officials announced the successful commissioning of three vital projects under the scheme: the 33 kV Niglok substation, the 33 kV Niglok-Ruksin transmission line, and the 33 kV Oyan substation. These developments mark a milestone in enhancing the state’s transmission and distribution network, crucial for supporting upcoming hydropower initiatives and ensuring energy security.
Mein emphasized the need for a coordinated and time-bound approach to project implementation, addressing delays and procedural challenges. He underscored the government’s commitment to building a robust power sector, which is essential for sustainable growth and improved quality of life across Arunachal Pradesh. The meeting also highlighted the importance of resolving local issues, such as compensation and land disputes, to ensure smooth project execution.
The state’s focus on upgrading its power infrastructure aligns with its broader vision of harnessing its vast hydropower potential, estimated at 58,000 MW, and positioning itself as a key contributor to India’s renewable energy goals. With these advancements, Arunachal Pradesh is laying a strong foundation for economic development and energy reliability.
