Itanagar: Mayor Tame Phassang of the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) has put forward a comprehensive plan to enhance the welfare of municipal workers and improve operational efficiency. During a recent meeting with IMC officials, Phassang proposed the creation of new posts for safai karamcharis (sanitation workers), a wage hike for existing staff, and the integration of advanced technology to empower the workforce.
The mayor emphasized the critical role of safai karamcharis in maintaining the city’s cleanliness and urged the state government to approve additional positions to address the growing demands of Itanagar’s expanding population. He also advocated for a salary increase, citing the rising cost of living and the need to ensure fair compensation for workers’ essential services.
To modernize municipal operations, Phassang proposed equipping workers with tech-based tools to streamline tasks such as waste management and public service delivery. He highlighted the potential of digital platforms to improve coordination and efficiency, aligning with the vision of a smarter, cleaner Itanagar.
The mayor’s proposals have been submitted to the state government for approval, with officials expressing optimism about their potential to transform the IMC’s functionality. Phassang reiterated his commitment to prioritizing workers’ welfare and leveraging technology to elevate Itanagar’s status as a model capital city in Northeast India.
