Itanagar: Ninong Ering, a Member of the Legislative Assembly from Arunachal Pradesh, has appealed to the Central government to tackle inequalities in hostel facilities at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi. In a letter to the Union Education Minister, Ering highlighted the urgent need to address disparities affecting students from marginalized communities, particularly those from the Northeast.
Ering emphasized that many students from remote areas face challenges due to inadequate infrastructure and uneven access to quality accommodations at JNU. He pointed out that while some hostels offer modern amenities, others lack basic facilities, creating a significant gap in the student experience. This, he argued, undermines the principle of equal opportunity in education.
The MLA urged the government to allocate funds for upgrading hostel infrastructure and ensuring equitable access for all students. He also called for a comprehensive review of the university’s policies to address systemic issues and promote inclusivity.
Ering’s appeal has sparked discussions among student groups, with many echoing his demand for immediate reforms to improve living conditions at one of India’s premier institutions.
