Aalo – In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Anti-Drug Squad of West Siang Police in Arunachal Pradesh has uncovered and dismantled a sophisticated drug peddling operation in Aalo, leading to the arrest of the primary suspect, Dorik Doji. The operation revealed a modern twist to drug distribution, with the accused utilizing QR codes and digital payment platforms to facilitate transactions.
Dorik Doji, a resident of Aalo, was apprehended following an investigation into two cases registered under the NDPS Act at Aalo Police Station. Authorities discovered that Doji orchestrated a drug supply network through a Customer Service Point (CSP) and online transactions, leveraging QR codes and Google Pay to collect payments. The investigation began after police received intelligence about Doji’s activities, leading to the arrest of Talom Mibang, a CSP operator in Pasighat, who was initially detained for his involvement. Mibang’s arrest provided critical leads that ultimately pointed to Doji as the mastermind.
According to police, Doji deceived Mibang by claiming he was running an online gaming business, convincing him to allow clients to transfer money via his CSP and QR code. The operation’s modus operandi involved drug users contacting Doji through intermediaries. Once a payment was made using the shared QR code, Doji would place the drugs in a remote location, informing the buyer of the drop-off point via a phone call. To avoid detection, Doji frequently changed his mobile number after a few transactions and relied solely on WhatsApp for communication, ensuring he never met users or middlemen in person. Funds were often rerouted through a CSP in Aalo that Doji himself managed, and he occasionally collected money directly from the Pasighat CSP.
The investigation, supported by technical evidence, bank transaction records, and assistance from Pasighat Police, culminated in Doji’s arrest in Aalo. A total of eight individuals have been detained in connection with the two cases, highlighting the scale of the network. The use of digital payment methods in this racket underscores a growing trend of technology being exploited for illegal activities, posing new challenges for law enforcement in the region.
This bust marks a significant step in West Siang Police’s efforts to curb the drug menace in Arunachal Pradesh, though it also raises questions about the oversight of digital payment systems and their potential misuse. The operation reflects the police’s determination to adapt to evolving criminal tactics while sending a strong message to those involved in the drug trade.
