– A significant legal awareness camp took place in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Kameng district, focusing on enhancing access to justice for local communities. Organized by the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and the district administration, the one-day event was held under the banner of “Mega Legal Awareness-cum-Seva Aapke Dwar Camp.”
The initiative, supported by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), brought together prominent judicial figures, including Supreme Court Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai, who serves as NALSA’s Executive Chairman, and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, mentor to APSLSA. They were joined by Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi, Justice Suman Shyam, and local MLA Phurpa Tsering, who advises the state’s Public Works Department minister.
Justice Gavai, addressing the gathering, emphasized the critical role of legal awareness, noting that many people miss out on legal services due to a lack of knowledge. He urged for greater outreach to ensure justice reaches every corner of society. Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta echoed this sentiment, outlining the camp’s goal of delivering legal and welfare services directly to citizens, particularly in remote areas.
The event saw participation from around 30 government departments, offering a range of services under the Seva Aapke Dwar initiative. Legal education sessions covered vital topics such as domestic violence, workplace sexual harassment, individual rights, and the responsibilities of protection officers. Over 1,000 attendees, including villagers, students, local leaders, and security personnel, benefited from the program.
The camp’s success underscored Arunachal Pradesh’s commitment to empowering its citizens through legal literacy and immediate support, reinforcing the state’s efforts to bridge gaps in justice delivery.
