In a recent discussion with Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu emphasized the need for accelerated upgrades to the state’s airport infrastructure and the introduction of new flight routes. The meeting, held in New Delhi, focused on improving air connectivity to boost tourism, trade, and economic development in the northeastern state.
Khandu highlighted the strategic importance of modernizing airports in Arunachal Pradesh, a region known for its rugged terrain and limited transport options. He urged the central government to expedite ongoing projects and explore the feasibility of additional air routes to connect remote areas with major cities. The chief minister stressed that enhanced air travel facilities would not only benefit locals but also attract more visitors to the state’s scenic landscapes and cultural heritage.
The talks also covered the potential expansion of Itanagar’s Donyi Polo Airport, which serves as a key gateway to the state capital. Khandu proposed increasing flight frequency and linking the airport to new destinations to accommodate growing passenger demand. Minister Scindia reportedly assured the state government of full support, promising to review the proposals and collaborate with relevant authorities to address the concerns.
Arunachal Pradesh, sharing borders with China, Bhutan, and Myanmar, has long faced connectivity challenges due to its geography. Improved aviation infrastructure is seen as a game-changer for the region, fostering economic growth and strengthening its integration with the rest of India. The state government remains optimistic that these discussions will lead to concrete action, bringing Arunachal closer to its development goals.
