Arunachal Governor Advocates Holistic Strategy to Address Northeast Security Issues

The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) K.T. Parnaik, has emphasized the urgent need for a well-rounded approach to tackle the security challenges facing Northeast India. Speaking at a seminar on the military history of the region held at Rajiv Gandhi University, he underscored the importance of building public trust, reducing civilian casualties, and respecting human rights as key components of a sustainable security framework.

Parnaik pointed out that the Northeast has faced prolonged neglect, which has historically fueled insurgency and unrest. He stressed that overcoming these issues requires a collaborative effort that goes beyond military measures, focusing on long-term peacebuilding and development. The event, organized by the university’s history department, explored the region’s evolution, particularly since India’s independence, shedding light on how colonial policies have shaped its socio-political landscape.

The seminar saw robust participation from students, researchers, and faculty across Northeast institutions, with 13 research papers presented on topics ranging from historical military strategies to contemporary security dynamics. Parnaik’s address highlighted the necessity of understanding the region’s past to craft effective policies for its future, reinforcing the call for a balanced approach that integrates security with community welfare and sustainable growth.
