In a landmark decision aimed at improving the lives of its workforce, the Arunachal Pradesh government has rolled out a substantial wage increase for contingent employees, casual workers, and laborers across various sectors. Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced the policy shift, underscoring the state’s dedication to supporting those who form the backbone of its labor force. The revised wage structure, set to take effect on April 1, will benefit workers in multiple categories, ensuring better financial stability and recognition for their efforts.
The updated pay scale promises significant gains, with unskilled workers now earning between Rs 18,000 and Rs 30,000 monthly, depending on their experience and role. Skilled workers, meanwhile, will see their salaries rise to a range of Rs 19,000 to Rs 31,000 per month. For those stationed in remote or challenging areas, an additional Rs 500 monthly allowance has been introduced to acknowledge the difficulties they face. This move reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the unique geographical and economic challenges of the region.
Adding to the wage hike, a new retirement benefit scheme, dubbed the ‘Arunachal Karmayogi Samman Nidhi,’ has been launched. Under this initiative, contingent employees, casual workers, and Auxiliary Labor Corps (ALCs) retiring at age 60 after 20 years of continuous service will receive a one-time payout of Rs 3 lakh. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who presented the state budget, highlighted that this measure aims to honor long-serving workers and provide them with financial security in their later years.
The announcement has been met with widespread approval, with officials noting that detailed implementation guidelines will soon be released by the finance, planning, and investment department. This policy not only strengthens the socio-economic fabric of Arunachal Pradesh but also sets a precedent for worker welfare in the northeastern state.
