The Arunachal Pradesh government is gearing up to unveil a new film policy aimed at promoting and strengthening the state’s burgeoning film industry, according to Information and Public Relations (IPR) Minister Nyato Dukam. The announcement was made during a session in the state assembly on Wednesday, signaling a significant step toward nurturing local talent and boosting cinematic growth in the region.
Addressing a query raised by BJP MLA Tai Nikio during Question Hour, Minister Dukam revealed that the state cabinet has greenlit the formation of an interim committee tasked with drafting a detailed film policy. This committee, which includes the IPR secretary, director, deputy director (film), and two prominent filmmakers, has been directed to consult with key stakeholders to ensure the policy meets the industry’s needs. “The draft is currently under review, and we expect it to be finalized and submitted by the next financial year,” Dukam stated.
The minister highlighted that the policy is being shaped with input from various sources, including the Film and Television Institute at Rakap, located near Itanagar, as well as other relevant stakeholders. This collaborative approach aims to create a robust framework that will support filmmakers and elevate Arunachal Pradesh’s presence in the cinematic landscape.
The move has been prompted by concerns raised by MLA Nikio about the challenges faced by local filmmakers, who have long operated without a structured support system. The forthcoming policy is expected to address these issues, offering a lifeline to the state’s creative community and fostering an environment conducive to storytelling through film.
While specific details of the policy remain under wraps pending its finalization, it is anticipated to include measures such as funding opportunities, infrastructure development, and promotional initiatives to showcase Arunachal’s rich cultural heritage and scenic beauty on screen. The initiative reflects the state’s broader ambition to harness its untapped potential in the creative arts.
As Arunachal Pradesh prepares to roll out this transformative policy, filmmakers and residents alike are hopeful that it will mark the beginning of a new era for the local industry, putting the state on the map as a hub for innovative and impactful cinema. Further updates are expected once the drafting committee completes its work in the coming months.
