The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly passed the Arun Parivar Authority Bill, 2025, on Tuesday, marking a significant step toward improving the distribution of welfare schemes across the state. The bill aims to establish a dedicated authority to streamline and enhance the delivery of government benefits to citizens.
Introduced during the ongoing budget session, the legislation received strong support from lawmakers after a detailed discussion. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who also oversees finance and planning, presented the bill, emphasizing its potential to ensure that welfare programs reach their intended beneficiaries more effectively. “This authority will act as a bridge between the government and the people, ensuring transparency and efficiency,” Mein stated during the session.
The Arun Parivar Authority will be tasked with coordinating various welfare initiatives, monitoring their implementation, and addressing gaps in the current system. It is expected to focus on key areas such as healthcare, education, and social security, tailoring solutions to meet the diverse needs of Arunachal’s population.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu hailed the bill’s passage as a progressive move, noting that it reflects the state government’s commitment to inclusive development. “With this authority, we aim to bring governance closer to the people and ensure no one is left behind,” Khandu said in a statement following the assembly’s decision.
The bill’s approval comes amid ongoing efforts by the state government to strengthen administrative mechanisms and uplift marginalized communities. Legislators across party lines largely welcomed the move, though some opposition members raised concerns about the authority’s autonomy and funding. In response, the government assured that adequate resources and oversight would be provided to ensure its success.
The Arun Parivar Authority is expected to be operational within the next few months, pending the formulation of detailed guidelines and the appointment of key officials. Once active, it is poised to play a pivotal role in transforming how welfare schemes are executed in Arunachal Pradesh, potentially setting a model for other states to follow.
