On February 20, 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah extended his warm greetings to the people of Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh on their Statehood Day, celebrating the unique contributions of both states to India’s growth. In messages shared via social media, Shah lauded the rich cultural heritage and economic significance of these northeastern states, which marked their statehood anniversaries on this day.
Addressing the people of Mizoram, Shah described the state as a vital thread in India’s diverse cultural fabric, noting that its residents have consistently brought pride to the nation. “Greetings to our sisters and brothers of Mizoram on Statehood Day. Blessed with a rich heritage, the people of Mizoram have always made the nation proud. I pray for the continued growth of the state,” he stated. Mizoram, which became India’s 23rd state on February 20, 1987, following the Mizoram Peace Accord, is recognized for its lush landscapes and vibrant traditions.
Turning to Arunachal Pradesh, Shah highlighted its natural beauty and cultural diversity, underscoring the state’s substantial role in advancing India’s development. “Warm wishes to our sisters and brothers of Arunachal Pradesh on Statehood Day. Gifted with natural beauty and cultural diversity, Arunachal Pradesh has made immense contributions to Bharat’s growth. May the state touch new heights,” he remarked. Arunachal Pradesh, known as the ‘Land of the Dawn-Lit Mountains,’ achieved full statehood on the same date in 1987, evolving from the North-East Frontier Agency to a key player in India’s northeastern region.
The Home Minister’s greetings coincided with his participation in the ‘Unity Utsav’ event in New Delhi, an initiative celebrating the Northeast’s rich cultural legacy. Both states, with their strategic locations and dynamic identities, continue to strengthen India’s unity and economic framework, a sentiment echoed in Shah’s heartfelt tribute on this occasion.
