In a move to honor the memory of the late Chief Minister Kalikho Pul, the Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet has given the green light to establish the Kalikho Pul Memorial State Table Tennis Championship as an annual event. This decision was made public after the Cabinet’s session on February 17, 2025.
The championship, which started as a one-time tribute to Pul, will now become a staple in the state’s sports calendar, celebrating his legacy. Kalikho Pul, who briefly held the office of Chief Minister, was known for his dedication to sports development among other initiatives.
The announcement was warmly received by the sports community and the public, recognizing it as a poignant way to commemorate Pul’s contributions. This annual event not only keeps the memory of Pul alive but also aims to nurture and showcase table tennis talent within Arunachal Pradesh.
The endorsement of this championship by the Cabinet highlights their support for sports and the legacy of Pul, known for his enthusiasm for sports. Dasanglu Pul, the late CM’s widow, has actively supported initiatives that honor her husband’s memory, and this championship is seen as a step in that direction.
The event is expected to gain more prominence over the years, possibly attracting participants from various parts of the state and even beyond, thereby enriching the sports culture of Arunachal Pradesh.
