The United States military has conducted a precision airstrike in northwest Syria, eliminating a senior commander affiliated with the Al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group Hurras al-Din. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the operation in an official statement on Sunday, February 16, 2025.
Target Eliminated: Senior Finance and Logistics Officer
According to CENTCOM, the airstrike took place on Saturday, February 15, targeting a high-ranking finance and logistics officer within the terrorist network. The operation aimed to disrupt terrorist activities and prevent future attacks against U.S. and allied forces.
Official Statement from CENTCOM
“This strike is part of our ongoing efforts to counter terrorism in the region,” the statement read. “It was executed to disrupt and weaken terrorist groups that plan, organize, and conduct attacks against U.S. personnel and our allies.”
U.S. Pledges Continued Counterterrorism Efforts
General Michael Erik Kurilla, the head of U.S. Central Command, emphasized America’s commitment to combating terrorism.
“We will continue to relentlessly pursue terrorists to protect our homeland, American forces, and our allied partners,” General Kurilla stated.
The U.S. officially designated Hurras al-Din as a terrorist organization in 2019, and several of its key members remain on the most-wanted list with bounties on their heads.
Recent Strikes Against Terror Groups
This operation follows a series of intensified airstrikes by U.S. forces in Syria and Iraq. Just three days earlier, Iraqi security forces had conducted an airstrike near Rawa, killing five ISIS operatives.
Additionally, on January 30, 2025, the U.S. military launched an airstrike in northwestern Syria, eliminating another high-ranking Hurras al-Din commander, Muhammad Salah al-Jabir.
