Arunachal’s Niglok Village Embarks on Journey to Become a Model Clean and Green Village

Introduction

Niglok Gram Panchayat (GP) in Arunachal Pradesh is setting a remarkable example by embarking on a path to transform into a model “Clean and Green” village under the Localisation of Sustainable Development Goals (LSDG) initiative.

The LSDG Initiative

  • Foundation Stone Laid: The initiative took a significant step forward when Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Ojing Tasing laid the foundation stone at Niglok Community Hall in East Siang district on February 12, 2025.
  • Objectives: The LSDG project focuses on nine key areas, including creating clean and green villages, to align local development with sustainable practices.

Funding and Development

  • Financial Support: Niglok GP has been allocated Rs 60 lakh (3% of the State Opioid Response (SOR) grants) for the “Clean and Green Niglok” project under the LSDG component for the fiscal year 2024-25.
  • Infrastructure Improvements: Funds will be used for developing community assets, enhancing the hospitality sector for tourism, and sustainable management of bio-resources.

Community Engagement and Requests

  • Local Input: The community actively participated in the event, with leaders like GPC Tadang Taga submitting a memorandum to the minister. It requested funds for the renovation of a 2-km village link road, which is currently in poor condition.
  • Dignitaries Present: The ceremony was attended by LSDG projects’ state nodal officer Obang Minki, Pasighat DPDO Tajing Padung, SP Pankaj Lomba, ZPMs, and Gaon Burahs, showcasing widespread support.

Broader Impact

  • Model for Others: Niglok’s efforts are part of a broader vision to make Arunachal Pradesh a leader in sustainable village development, aligning with the state’s commitment to the Clean and Green Arunachal Mission.
  • Tourism and Local Economy: By focusing on cleanliness and green initiatives, Niglok aims to attract tourists, thereby boosting the local economy through increased hospitality and tourism activities.

Conclusion

Niglok Gram Panchayat’s initiative under the LSDG project not only aims at environmental sustainability but also at uplifting the socio-economic fabric of the community. This endeavor serves as an inspiring model for other villages in Arunachal Pradesh and beyond, highlighting the importance of local governance in achieving broader developmental goals.
