Impressive Medal Haul in Puducherry

Arunachal Pradesh’s senior taekwondo team showcased exceptional talent at the 40th National Senior Kyorugi and 13th National Poomsae Taekwondo Championship 2024, held from October 17 to 19 in Puducherry. The athletes secured a total of seven medals: two gold, one silver, and four bronze.

Gold Medal Achievements

  • Senior Female Group Poomsae (Under-30): The trio of Achum Sangha, Radha Bangsia, and Lumter Uli clinched the gold medal, demonstrating outstanding coordination and skill.
  • Senior Male Group Poomsae (Under-40): Gangfung Gangsa, Mari Karbak, and Likha Govind earned the top spot, highlighting their superior technique and teamwork.

Silver Medal Performance

  • Senior Male Individual Poomsae (Under-40): Gangfung Gangsa added to his accolades with a silver medal in the individual category, showcasing his versatility.

Bronze Medal Winners

  • Senior Female Individual Poomsae (Under-30): Khinsan Wangsu secured a bronze, reflecting her dedication and prowess.
  • Senior Male Individual Poomsae (Under-60): Margam Karbak earned a bronze, underscoring his competitive spirit.
  • Senior Mixed Pair Poomsae (Under-30): The duo of Rikpy Nyodu and Miching Taja, along with the team of Akash Kumar Ram, Miching Taja, and Kame Bayang, each secured bronze medals, emphasizing the depth of talent in the state.

Individual Honors and National Games Qualification

Notably, Chello Marry was honored as the ‘Best Female Fighter’ of the tournament and received a wild card entry for the National Games 2025. Additionally, Akash Kumar Ram qualified for the National Games by finishing within the top 10, marking a significant achievement for the athlete.

Leadership and Coaching Support

The team’s success is attributed to the guidance of coaches Kayang Darang (Kyorugi) and Ranjit Biswakarma (Poomsae), along with manager Jina Yangfo. Their combined efforts provided the athletes with the necessary support to excel at the national level.

Official Commendations

Arunachal Taekwondo Association President Kipa Kaha expressed immense pride in the team’s performance, stating, “The entire team has done exceptionally well. This success will undoubtedly strengthen the popularity of the sport of Taekwondo in Arunachal Pradesh.” General Secretary Likha Robin added, “This is a proud moment for Arunachal Pradesh. Our athletes have shown their true potential at the national stage, and their achievements are the result of hard work, dedication, and passion.”

Continued Success in Lucknow

Building on this momentum, the state’s athletes continued to shine at the 7th National Open Taekwondo Championship 2025, held from January 16 to 20 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The team secured three gold, one silver, and one bronze medal, further establishing Arunachal Pradesh as a formidable force in the national taekwondo arena.

The consistent achievements of Arunachal Pradesh’s taekwondo athletes highlight the state’s dedication to martial arts and set a promising precedent for future competitions.
