Honoring Legacy and Advancing Education
In a significant event, Arunachal Pradesh’s Education Minister, Pasang Dorjee Sona, unveiled a bust of the late Khapriso Krong, a former education minister and the founder of Indira Gandhi Government College (IGGC). The ceremony took place at IGGC, with local MLA Dr. Mohesh Chai proposing to rename the institution as Khapriso Krong Government College to honor his contributions.
Emphasis on Educational Reforms
Minister Sona has been actively advocating for substantial reforms in the state’s education sector. He highlighted the government’s dedication to overhauling educational infrastructure and removing obstacles that hinder quality education. A key initiative includes the rationalization of teachers, aiming for implementation in the upcoming academic year.
Merging Low-Enrolment Schools
To optimize resources and enhance educational quality, the minister emphasized the need to merge schools with low enrolment. This strategy focuses on consolidating resources to provide better facilities and teaching staff, ensuring that students receive a higher standard of education. Over 600 schools have already been merged or closed due to low enrolment, reflecting a shift from quantity to quality in the education system.
Community Engagement and Infrastructure Development
Demonstrating a commitment to community development, the minister laid the foundation for school upgrades and a community shed in Sarti village, Walong, near the Indo-China border. These projects, part of the Sadbhavna Projects 2024-25, aim to improve educational facilities and foster community engagement in remote areas.
Future Outlook
The unveiling of the memorial bust serves as a reminder of the state’s rich educational heritage and the ongoing efforts to reform and improve the education system. With a focus on infrastructure development, teacher rationalization, and strategic school mergers, Arunachal Pradesh is poised to provide quality education to all its students, honoring past leaders’ legacies while looking toward a brighter future.
