Discovery of the Crime
On December 27, 2024, authorities in Doimukh, Papum Pare district, were alerted to a suspicious burial at a construction site in Yupia-I.Upon investigation, they exhumed the partially buried body of a woman, later identified as 24-year-old Janmoni Das, who was employed as housekeeping staff at R&T Powerol in Lekhi.
Investigation and Identification of Suspects
Under the leadership of SDPO Radhe Obing, the police initiated a thorough investigation.Utilizing technical intelligence, eyewitness accounts, and CCTV footage, they identified two primary suspects:
- Mojibul Hoque (38): A laborer from Bongaigaon, Assam, who had been working at the construction site. He was last seen with the victim on the night of the incident and fled the area immediately afterward.
- Rahul Amin (28): An individual spotted with Hoque on the night of the crime. He was subsequently arrested and is currently in custody.
Apprehension of the Prime Suspect
Following meticulous efforts, Hoque was traced to Hosur, Tamil Nadu, where he had taken up employment as a security guard in a residential complex. On January 2, 2025, a dedicated team led by SDPO Obing, SI Manoj Kumar Rai, and ASI MA Nur was dispatched to Tamil Nadu.The team apprehended Hoque in the early hours of January 3 and brought him back to Doimukh after securing a transit remand from the court.
Confession and Ongoing Investigation
During interrogation, Hoque confessed to the crime.The investigation is ongoing, with authorities exploring all aspects of the case, including the motive, potential involvement of accomplices, and the possibility of sexual assault..Forensic and post-mortem reports are awaited to determine further charges.

The operation, conducted under the active supervision of SP Taru Gusar, IPS, highlighted the dedication and efficiency of the Papum Pare police. The district police extended their gratitude to the Tamil Nadu police for their cooperation in apprehending the accused.
