Governor Parnaik Extends Support to Deepak Nabam Living Home

Lt. General KT Parnaik (Retd.), the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, demonstrated his unwavering support for mental health initiatives by presenting a cheque of Rs 30 lakhs to Shri Deepak Nabam for the Deepak Nabam Living Home, a dedicated destitute center located in Senki Park, Itanagar.

This generous grant, provided under the aegis of the state government’s Mukhya Mantri Manasik Swasthya Yojana Society, will further empower the organization in its noble mission of supporting individuals grappling with mental health challenges.

Commending the exceptional work undertaken by the Deepak Nabam Living Home, the Governor lauded the organization as a beacon of hope and an exemplary model for others to emulate. He acknowledged the unwavering commitment of the institution to providing compassionate care, support, and a dignified life to those marginalized by mental health conditions.

Governor Parnaik emphasized the critical need for a society that embraces compassion as a guiding principle. He asserted that mental health care must be recognized as an inherent right, not a privilege, and called for collective action to break down the stigma surrounding mental illness. Fostering mental wellness, he stressed, is a shared responsibility that necessitates collaborative efforts to break down societal stigma, offer comprehensive support systems, and ensure the full inclusion of individuals facing mental health challenges.

Shri Pawan Kumar Sain, Health Commissioner, highlighted the significance of the Deepak Nabam Living Home, emphasizing that it holds the distinction of being the first halfway home registered under the State Mental Health Authority. He further informed the gathering that the authority conducts regular inspections and provides valuable recommendations to the home. Moreover, all inmates residing at the home are registered at the State Mental Hospital in Midpu.

The Health Commissioner announced an upcoming mental health camp scheduled for December 30, 2024, to be held at the living home. This vital initiative will provide a crucial platform for:

  • Free medical checkups for over 300 patients.
  • Free distribution of essential neuropsychiatric medications.
  • Consultations with experienced senior psychiatrists and medical officers.

In conclusion, the Governor urged society to actively dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health and strive to create an inclusive and supportive environment for all individuals. This initiative serves as a testament to the state’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing mental health as an integral component of overall well-being.
