Workshop on Women and Child Protection Held in Tawang

A one-day awareness program for Heads of Offices and Presiding Officers of Internal Complaint Committees, constituted under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013 (PoSH Act), was conducted today at the IIM building in Tawang.

The workshop aimed to educate participants on the intricacies of child and women protection legislation and to sensitize them to the alarming rise in crimes against women and children within the district.

The program commenced with a warm welcome address by CDPO Tawang, Dondup Pema, who underscored the urgent need and critical relevance of such programs in the current context. The program included a series of insightful presentations and interactive sessions conducted by various experts.

Inspector N. Angu, Officer-in-Charge, Tawang Police Station, provided a comprehensive overview of the latest criminal laws. Norbu Drema, Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Tawang, expressed deep concern over the escalating crime rates against women and children in the district. Advocate Tsering Tsomu, a member of the Juvenile Justice Board, presented a detailed overview of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. Furthermore, Advocate Thinlay Norbu provided valuable insights on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Child Marriage Act.

Other esteemed resource persons, including Advocates Rinchen Wangmo and Sonam Zangmo, also addressed the participants, highlighting the legal provisions designed to protect women from domestic violence and workplace harassment.
