Arunachal Deputy CM Reiterates Commitment to GST Reforms for Enhanced Economic Growth

Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting GST reforms aimed at fostering economic growth and simplifying compliance for all stakeholders within the state.

Addressing the 55th GST Council meeting in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, on Saturday, Mein, who also holds the Finance portfolio, emphasized the state government’s unwavering dedication to supporting reforms that streamline the GST framework, ensuring fairness, and effectively addressing the unique needs of Arunachal Pradesh. He stated, “Arunachal Pradesh remains dedicated to supporting reforms that simplify the GST framework, ensure fairness, and cater to the unique needs of our state. These efforts align with our vision to promote ease of doing business and accelerate development.”

The meeting, chaired by Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, encompassed a wide range of topics focused on streamlining the GST framework and enhancing its inclusivity and effectiveness.

Discussions during the meeting centered on key areas aimed at strengthening the GST framework to drive economic growth and improve taxpayer support. Proposed amendments to solidify the legal structure of GST were highlighted, alongside efforts to simplify GST rate structures for goods and services, thereby facilitating compliance and stimulating economic activity.

The meeting also emphasized the critical need to enhance the grievance redressal mechanism to provide more effective support to taxpayers.

The agenda included expanding exemptions in crucial sectors such as healthcare, life insurance, and research conducted for the broader public good, advancing procedural rules for GST Appellate Tribunals (GSTAT) to streamline dispute resolution, and ensuring the timely and equitable distribution of Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) revenues to states for greater fiscal stability, the communique stated.

Mein expressed his full support for the recommendations and updates presented during the meeting, including the minutes of the previous GST Council meeting.
