The Inaugural Golden Pagoda Marathon 2025, also known as the Namsai Marathon, was formally unveiled at the Press Club of India in Delhi.
Scheduled for February 9, 2025, this event promises to be India’s most scenic marathon, offering runners and travelers an extraordinary opportunity to experience the captivating beauty of Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh.
The event’s announcement was marked by the unveiling of its official jersey in the august presence of dignitaries, including Ninong Ering, MLA, and Abu Tayeng, Secretary of Sports and Youth Affairs. This year’s theme, “Marathon & Namsai Tourism,” underscores the region’s pristine landscapes and vibrant cultural heritage.
Set against the awe-inspiring backdrop of the Golden Pagoda, a Thai-inspired architectural marvel and a significant cultural landmark of Namsai, the marathon offers a unique fusion of endurance, breathtaking scenery, and spiritual tranquility. The event will also feature captivating traditional tribal performances, delectable local cuisine, and eco-conscious practices, aiming to showcase Namsai’s distinctive identity to the world.
The marathon features four distinct categories designed to accommodate participants of all ages and fitness levels: a Full Marathon (42 km) with a prize of Rs 2,00,000 (for individuals aged 18 and above), a Half Marathon (21 km) with a prize of Rs 1,50,000 (for individuals aged 18 and above), a Standard Run (10 km) with a prize of Rs 1,00,000 (for individuals aged 18 and above), and a Fun Run (5 km) with a prize of INR 20,000 (open to all ages).
The marathon is an integral part of a broader vision to revitalize Arunachal Pradesh’s tourism landscape. By integrating thrilling adventure sports such as kayaking and bamboo rafting, the region aspires to establish itself as a premier destination for eco-tourism and sustainable travel.
