BIS Sensitizes Arunachal Panchayats on Standardization

On December 16th, the Guwahati branch of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted an awareness program for Gram Panchayats at the DC Conference Hall in Bomdila, Arunachal Pradesh.

Representatives from 37 Gram Panchayats in the West Kameng region participated in the event, engaging in important discussions about the role of BIS across various sectors.

The session, held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall and chaired by Dr. Dechin Droka, DPDO, aimed to raise awareness about the vital importance of standardization in maintaining quality and consistency in diverse fields.

Barashajyoti Baishya, Standard Promotion Consultant, and Dhritiman Dutta, Data Entry Operator at BIS, facilitated the program.

Baishya delivered an informative presentation on BIS and its latest initiatives, highlighting the crucial role of BIS standards in sectors like agriculture, industry, and consumer safety.

Participants received informative Gram Panchayat booklets containing valuable information on standardization practices. These booklets were distributed to all attendees to further their understanding of the standards.

A key focus of the program was a discussion on the importance of adhering to BIS standards, particularly in government procurement.

The session stressed the need for responsible and efficient use of public funds through the adoption of these standards, promoting transparency, quality control, and accountability.

The awareness session concluded with a call for increased awareness and stricter implementation of these standards at the local level, representing a significant step towards promoting sustainable development and ensuring the proper utilization of public resources throughout the region.
