In a display of solidarity, the people of Assam have joined the growing protests in Arunachal Pradesh against the proposed dam construction on the Siang River.
Protesters are rallying under the slogan “No survey, No Dam,” demanding that the river be allowed to flow freely, preserving its natural course and sustaining communities downstream.
The recent deployment of CRPF personnel at a primary school to facilitate the dam project has ignited widespread outrage. Critics argue that this move is a violation of the rule of law and demand its immediate reversal.
In August 2024, the Arunachal Pradesh police were tasked with assessing security threats related to the survey and core drilling for the dam project at specific locations. This led to significant protests from local villagers.
Assam’s protesters have expressed their full support for Arunachal Pradesh, uniting in the fight to protect the Siang River and the rights of affected communities.
