Itanagar Police successfully solved a fake currency case after the State Bank of India’s Itanagar C-Sector branch reported a suspicious deposit. A total of 68 counterfeit Rs 500 notes, worth Rs 34,000, were deposited into an account belonging to Pubia Nachi on December 5, 2024.
Following the complaint, police registered a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. An investigation was launched, involving site visits, witness statements, and the seizure of counterfeit currency.
The prime suspect, Pubia Nachi, a resident of Nachi Village in Upper Subansiri district, was apprehended and confessed to obtaining the counterfeit notes from an individual in Assam’s Bihpuria area. The individual had falsely claimed to be an RBI employee and assured Nachi that the counterfeit notes were undetectable.
Itanagar Superintendent of Police Rohit Rajbir Singh commended the investigative team for their efforts in solving the case. He also warned the public to be cautious and avoid engaging in unauthorized currency exchanges or fraudulent schemes.
The police are actively pursuing the individual from Assam who supplied the counterfeit currency and urge citizens to report any suspicious activity to local authorities.
