FOUNDATION OF KARGU GAMGI” a GIANT LEAP to bring a Cultural Revolution amongst Galo Community

The 20th Foundation Day of Kargu GAMGI movement was observed and celebrated by Donyipolo followers of Galo Tribe at Modirijo Itanagar with spiritual fervour and traditional pomp and colours by hundreds of devoted followers to commemorate its first foundation in the year 2003 month December and day was the 5th.

Mr. Boya Potom, the GAMGI Abo, senior most GAMGI taabo(priest) was invited as the Chief guest. It was moment of honour and respect to seniormost disciple of Dr Tony Koyu who used make Sunday discourse of Donyipolo Orman since 2003 for nearly 18 years and performed lot of healing prayers. It is learnt that he healed even ailing or sick birds, fowls and dogs with his Donyipolo hymns or mantros that are very powerful. He shared his good feelings and huge experience in his speech and appreciated Dr Koyu as the path finder of such KARGU GAMGI movements. He even said that he kept a portrait of Koyu along with image of Golgi Bote Rukbo and Donyipolo in his prayer place. He was felicitated by the KARGU GAMGI Council for his dedication and sacrifice made .

Mr Monya RIBA, the General Secretary of Kargu GAMGI Council Itanagar, expressed his gratitude to Dr. Tony Koyu as founder of organized prayer system of Donyipoloism in KARGU GAMGI and construction of a Prayer hall at Niti Vihar at his own cost for Galo community devotees. And Galo People have been conducting Donyipolo prayers at Koyu’s building since last 19 years which is really unimaginable for his sacrifice. Had there been no Koyu sir perhaps Galo People would not have started Kargu GAMGI, therefore the Itanagar KARGU GAMGI is the parent of all KARGU GAMGI or Donyipolo Khumko whatsoever in Arunachal Pradesh. He also appreciated and thanked seniors like Mr. Mido Lollen and Mr. Lava Potom being the Founder President and General Secretary who led Galo devotees at the initial state of our teething periods. He took all names of past organisers , Presidents and secretaries like Mr. Jirpok Jirdo, Mr. Marpak Kadu, Lt.Yido Boje & Mr. Lukbom Gadi, Mr. Goken Bagra and Mr. Bekar Bagra, and women leaders for creating a very positive impact of Kargu GAMGI system and Goodwill image because of which our works have become easier now.

Mr. Komen Jirdo while addressing keynote, extended congratulations to all and gratitude to Dr. Koyu and family for founding KARGU systems in a very organised manner other wise lot many Galos could have deserted Indigenous Faith and cultural heritage so far. Both RIBA and Komen Jirdo expressed gratitude to all donors because of their help only we could have acquired a new plot of land for construction of KARGU GAMGI cum Indigenous research and training centre.

He further thanked seniors because of which entire Galo public repose full trust on Kargu GAMGI group and helped to raise an amount of ₹55lakh within a period of 2month’s donation drive. It’s really very unbelievable indeed.

Mr. Goken Bagra appreciated the founder and all executives for getting overall success every where.

Mrs Yayu Dabi Kadu women wing president also appreciated the founder of KARGU GAMGI as she said that the Founder family have great soul and hearts as family has sacrificed own private building and dedicated as KARGU GAMGI since last 19 to 20 years which others cannot even think of.

we all are indebted to Dr.Tony Koyu otherwise we would not have met, even known each other, support and help each other besides our people would not have learnt organized prayer systems. Apart from above the donators would not have donated ₹55lakhs to purchase this plot at Modirijo.

Mr. Doya Boje the President of Galo Peoples Federation expressed solace as his Lt. Father Yido Boje’s soul would now rest in peace since he (as son)has now understood the value of KARGU GAMGI..
& .thanked Dr. Koyu.

The speeches of Mrs Dobi Jimi Women Secretary and Mrs Otu Potom GAMGI Ane were quite impressive and appreciable.

Lastly Mrs. Mongam Dirchi recited good thoughts of Orman from Donyipolo Orman book authored by Dr. Koyu in Tanilipi and made all happy&joy.

Mr Bai Taba Vice President of IFCSAP also attended as Hon’ble Guest along with Mrs Dr. Rime Ngulom Potom were quite encouraging indeed.

Mr. Marpe Bojir senior Priest have testimony and substantiated that Kargu-GAMGI was coined and founded in presence of 36 Galo senior Priest out of which many have passed away but Mr Mogi Ori, Mr. Tama Romin and himself are still active in Kargu GAMGI movement.

Mr Tama Romin performed the ritual part of the celebration and appreciated the founder of the movement.

While going back to history we find that Golgi Bote Talom Rukbo is regarded as the founder of Ganging movement of Donyipolo as he only first established Donyipolo Yelam Kebang on 31st December 1986 and founded one Ganging in 1989 at Pasighat. His actions gave a Clarion call for all tribes of our state as a result IFCSAP was formed for promotion, protection and preservation of Indigenous Faith and cultural heritage of all Arunachal tribe.

Thereafter the Nyishi community followed and founded Nyedar Namlo movement to preserve and promote Donyipoloism faith.

Later on when Dr. Tony Koyu became President of IFCSAP from 2003 to 2007, he founded “KARGUGAMGI” with a view to protect our Indigenous Faith and Cultural heritage from going into oblivion.

One fine day on 27th September 2003, in a Galo Priests Conference, Dr. Tony Koyu graced as Chief Guest had seriously research and delved much into the roots of Galo Indigenous Faith systems, had resolved to coin “KARGU GAMGI” as the spiritual powerful and healing name of our prayer centres. About 36 numbers of senior and most experienced Galo priests happily adopted KARGU GAMGI. This name has been derived from spiritual and mythological word “Kargu Kardi” a mythological holy place where our senior priests used to assemble in front of deities. God’s and Goddesses to appeal, pray, negotiate, compromise, mutual agreement with God’s or
deities and Goddesses to return lost SOULS, heal them and stabilise Weak SOULS etc.

As per our mythological story of Abotani also, it is said that the Goddess Ane Donyi destined Tani to lead a human race amongst all living things. Therefore when his elder evil brother Poma Taki conspired and killed Niku Tani, then Ane Donyi at Do-kalo the kingdom of snakes then she felt concern for mother earth lest Evil might lead rule and ruin it which she never liked.

Therefore she directed her council of ministers Talo-Tanya to bring back a piece of nyiku tanis bone from snake queen.

Accordingly all Deities, God’s and God’s and Goddesses assembled at Kargu Kardi under the aegis of Ane Donyi in which a toy of baby boy was sculpted from clay mixed with a piece bone, water, oxygen, sunlight, leaf in which Ane Donyi blessed in a Soul as a result Tani was given rebirth…baby son without a natural parent was born n h cried “unga unga”….

Deities like Chitum Ane and Jore abo agreed to adopt Tani and brought up. So the Kargu word is really very powerful and a holy place where human being is created “Dodu billem pikko, doso bollem rekko”

In addition to Kargu another holy name was added i.e -“GAMGI” Agam ge GAMGI…means a place where God blesses n create lot of good fortunes and prosperity to her devotees. These 2 syllables “Kargu-GAMGI ” is a prayer centre or a Church like hall, a mondir in Hindu where devotees of Donyipoloism offer organised prayer system, support and help each other, heal ailments, get blessings, groom oneself as a social spiritual leader, and promote indigenous faith, culture more so Tani Language(In Galo)

That was just a bird’s eye view on KARGU GAMGI that was coined and founded on 27.09.2003 under the chairmanship of Dr. Tony Koyu with advise from 36 nos of Galo Priest (Jikte) which can be very easily verified from Jikte Tama Romin. Jikte Mogi Ori, state President of Central Kargu GAMGI Council H.Q. Aalo and Jikte Marpe Bojir who are still actively involved in Kargu GAMGI movements.

Arunachal Pradesh is a land of downlit mountain inhabited by 26 major tribes and more than 100 subtribes. Galo community is one of the major tribes with its own distinct culture, traditional ethics, indigenous belief system and other ritualistic affairs as well as Galo dialect which is a part and parcel of Tani language and culture. Originally since the time immemorial , the Galo Tribe have been nature worshiper and the Sun Goddess is regarded as the Supreme Goddess. In Galo the God stands for “Donyipolo” yirne-gone the Creator of all living things in this Universe.

However, in the past we did not have the organised prayer system as the old system based on rituals normally performed by our Nyijik nyib (Shaman)or priest who used to conduct or perform sacrifice of domestic animals like dog, pig, Mithun, cow and fowls besides eggs etc but such a ritualistic affairs were seemed very complex and costly for many because of which many poor and middle class people abandoned own tradition and embraced western alien religions.

Consequently the survival of our indigenous faith system began to dwindle that awoke social reformers and thinkers to bring in some kind of cultural revolution that could become a suitable and convenient alternative to quench spiritual urge of Galo Tribe as a whole.

Nevertheless less, Foundation Kargu GAMGI movement has only acted as the last straw on camel’s back to restore indigenous faith, cultural heritage and Tani Language (Galo) besides a community activity of “Donyi rigebe polo rige be. “Help others to help yourself! And God help those who help yourselves.”
